Lightning Strike Sparks Structure Fire on Beach Haven Road
On the evening of July 9, following an intense thunderstorm with frequent lightning, the East New Market Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Beach Haven Road.
Engine-Tanker 21 responded quickly with a full crew. Upon arrival, firefighters located a fire burning underneath the residence, believed to have been caused by a lightning strike. Crews rapidly deployed handlines and conducted ground operations to extinguish the fire, preventing further extension into the home.
Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of all responding personnel, the fire was brought under control, minimizing damage to the structure.
The East New Market Volunteer Fire Department reminds residents that lightning can ignite fires even after a storm has passed. If you suspect your home has been struck by lightning, call 9-1-1 immediately, even if there are no visible flames.
